Therefore, while helpful in determining a range of production dates, a neck date is obviously not a precisely definitive reference. Given the modular nature of Fender production techniques, an individual neck may have been produced in a given year, then stored for a period of time before being paired with a body to create a complete guitar, perhaps, for example, in the following year. Neck-dating can be useful in determining the approximate age of a guitar, but it is certainly not definitive because the neck date simply refers to the date that the individual component was produced, rather than the complete instrument. Most notably, production dates have been penciled or stamped on the butt end of the heel of the neck of most guitars and basses, although there were periods when this was not consistently done (1973 to 1981, for example) or simply omitted. instrument production history, production dates have been applied to various components. Information on Japanese and Mexican-made instruments is included towards the bottom. If you have a Fender in your hands, you can use this guide to precisely date your Fender instrument all the way back to 1950. Here’s a link to a great webpage that has compiled the dating list for Fender Serial Numbers. When was my Fender instrument made? It’s a common question we get at The Music Zoo. Many silverface and some blackface amps have the exact week, month and year stamped insie the chassis. Based on the last number (45), it’s safe to say it was made in late 1974. For example, if your silverface super reverb has transformer codes all from 1974, it was made in 1974! Let’s say the weeks are 27, 29, 33, 41. Use the latest one to give you a good idea of when it was made. They are all usually within a few months of each other. This code can be found on the power transformer, output transformer, choke, and reverb transformer. If it’s a silverface amp, that 6 indicates 1976. Now if it’s a blackface amp, it’s a safe bet that 6 means 1966. In the above example, the transformer was made in either 1966 or 1976, week 45. The first of the three digits tells us the last digit of the year (unfortunately not decade specific) and the last two numbers tell us the week. The date is in the last three digits, after the 606 –. Most post tweed Fenders had trannys manufactured by Schumacher. If your tweed champ is stamped HH, it was made in 1958/August.Īnother way to get a close estimate of when your amp was made is to read the codes on the transformers. So if your blackface amp has a date code stamp of OB, it was made in 1965/February. The tube chart date code works like this: the first letter indicates the year and the second letter indicates the month. Up until the end of the blackface era (1967), all amps left the factory with a tube chart that had a two letter date code stamped on it. There are some exceptions and some overlap, but the general idea is this: Tweeds (early 50’s to very early 60s), Browns (1960 – 1962), Blondes (1962 – 1963), Blackface (1963 – 1967), and Silverface (1967 – 1981). First, to get a general idea, there’s the appearance/style of the amp. There are some easy ways to find out when your vintage Fender was manufactured. We can make use of the HomeBrew and install VSCode and the accompanying code CLI command in one shot with: brew install -cask visual-studio-code It's available on Mac, Windows, and Linux, but right now we only care about the mac version. So please install the amazingly versatile yet, 100% free, Visual Studio Code. The better solution is to simply install a better editor. However, this is not what I use myself as it's a terrible editor and when testing my guide for Big Sur, I kept running into problems with encoding, finding line numbers etc. In past guides, I've always provided instructions to edit files using the default TextEdit application that comes pre-installed. Now we need to install the new version provided by Brew: brew install httpd Sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ 2>/dev/null It really doesn't hurt to just run all these commands in order - even if it's a fresh installation: sudo apachectl stop If you already have the built-in Apache running, it will need to be shutdown first, and any auto-loading scripts removed. However, the solution is to install Apache 2.4 via Homebrew and then configure it to run on the standard ports (80/443). The latest macOS 12.0 Monterey comes with Apache 2.4 pre-installed, however, it is no longer a simple task to use this version with Homebrew because Apple has removed some required scripts in this release. To make things easier, please simply run this now: brew install openssl Apache Installation When installing fresh on Monterey, I ran into a few libraries that were missing when completing all the steps below. Next, we choose a reasonable force function for the impact event, calculate the average value of that function Equation 9.4, and set the resulting expression equal to the calculated average force. We then use the relationship between force and impulse Equation 9.5 to estimate the average force during impact. Using the given data about the meteor, and making reasonable guesses about the shape of the meteor and impact time, we first calculate the impulse using Equation 9.6. Therefore, we’ll calculate the force on the meteor and then use Newton’s third law to argue that the force from the meteor on Earth was equal in magnitude and opposite in direction. It is conceptually easier to reverse the question and calculate the force that Earth applied on the meteor in order to stop it. (credit: modification of work by “Shane.torgerson”/Wikimedia Commons) The amount by which the object’s motion changes is therefore proportional to the magnitude of the force, and also to the time interval over which the force is applied.įigure 9.7 The Arizona Meteor Crater in Flagstaff, Arizona (often referred to as the Barringer Crater after the person who first suggested its origin and whose family owns the land). Alternatively, the more time you spend applying this force, again the larger the change of momentum will be, as depicted in Figure 9.5. Clearly, the larger the force, the larger the object’s change of momentum will be. Suppose you apply a force on a free object for some amount of time. The purpose of this section is to explore and describe that connection. This indicates a connection between momentum and force. Therefore, if an object’s velocity should change (due to the application of a force on the object), then necessarily, its momentum changes as well. We have defined momentum to be the product of mass and velocity. Apply the impulse-momentum theorem to solve problems.
